Careers Entitlements
At Sir Robert Pattinson Academy, every member of staff is involved with the provision of Careers Education. We work hard to ensure that the needs of each individual student are addressed, that each student has the tools to make choices that will enable them to achieve their full potential and realise their own happiness. To recognise this work, our Career Mark Platinum Award was renewed in July 2022.
Our careers education programme is delivered to all students from Years 7 to 13 and is supported by outside agencies including the ASK Apprenticeships Service, NHS Lincolnshire Talent Academy, RAF, Complete Careers, our local Enterprise Adviser, a range of local/national businesses plus Higher Education providers.
Our aim is for all students to be aware of the opportunities available to them and foster good self-awareness so they can make their own well-informed decisions. Students are encouraged to participate in many extra-curricular activities and student leadership roles.
The overall aim of an effective Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance programme is to help pupils to:
- Understand themselves better – at SRPA we pursue this through activities and opportunities linked to our Academy Values.
- Acquire the range of skills necessary for making realistic decisions
- Make informed choices about their own future career path.
- Students submit their thoughts about their own aspirations and next steps and we publish on our Aspiration Wall. This information helps the Academy to plan appropriate and personalised opportunities to inform, educate and advise our students.
- Be aware of education, training and career opportunities Post 16 and Post 18
- Manage transitions to new roles and situations effectively.
At Sir Robert Pattinson Academy, all students will have access to:
- a planned and structured careers education programme to help develop key skills around self-awareness and informed decision making
- up to date, impartial and comprehensive careers information covering educational, vocational training and career opportunities
- individual impartial advice or guidance interview with a qualified professional Careers Adviser
- a careers bulletin published every term and circulated to parents
Careers is about young people finding purpose, discovering what matters to them, their place in the world, the point of studying and getting up in the morning. Sometimes people think careers is just information about options and planning for the future. It is so much more. It can give hope, meaning, purpose, self- esteem and the ability to navigate the challenges of life.
(Liane Hambly 2020)
The Careers programme at Sir Robert Pattinson Academy aims to fulfil the sentiments expressed above. All students will participate in the Academy’s University Programme to gain further knowledge about this pathway too.
We have a stable, regularly evaluated scheme of learning for each year group, outlined below. (GBM 1)
